[Proverbs 27:12] A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
Seeing danger doesn’t guarantee we’ll avoid it. Seeing it, feeling it, even agreeing with it isn’t enough. Taking precaution means we are willing to do something differently than what we’re doing now.
You may need to have that awkward conversation with your friend. Cut up some credit cards. Change your phone number. Break up. Move out. Make an appointment with a counselor. If you decide that you’re going to do something about the direction of your life you can expect two things:
- Embarrassment - It may appear to others that you are overreacting. But wise people don’t react to their current situation, they make choices regarding what they see on the horizon. You may feel silly because you’re taking steps to avoid something later. But to the wise, later is now.
- Relief – You’ll finally see the alignment of your heart and the direction of your life. Now it doesn’t just feel right, it is right.
