I’ve Been an Idiot

In Acts 4:13 we read, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ORDINARY men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
The Greek word for ordinary is idiotes (pronounced id-ee-AH-tace). The word means “unskilled”, but it’s also where we get out word idiot. Now I can relate with this. I can’t tell you the number of times I have felt like an idiot. Even more, the times I actually was an idiot. The following are some people from the Bible who fall into this same category:
Moses who had a bad temper
Abraham lied about Sarah being his wife
Jacob was a deceiver
Rahaab was a prostitute
David was an adulterer and murderer
Paul persecuted and killed Christians
Peter denied he knew Jesus
James and John were politically ambitious
Matthew was a thief
As we look at this list of our heroes of the faith, what should be encouraging to all of us is the fact that God delights in using flawed and imperfect people. There are two reasons for this. First of all, there’s no such thing as perfect people for God to use. Secondly, in using imperfect people, it’s God who is ultimately glorified.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV)
Gee MIKE…. I guess i’m up there with them what great company
This makes me feel better about my faults. God can make even coal shine like a diamond.
Pastor Mike,
Just a note to let you know that I really really enjoy your messages. You don’t water anything down and preach the Word as it is written which alot of church’s are afraid to do because they want to be “politically correct” but I’m so glad to see your congregation hears the truth whether it is politically correct or not. God bless you for that! Actually there is nothing at Summit that I don’t enjoy. Totally enjoy the Praise and Worship and hate when I miss either a sunday or weds service though do more then I’d like because of family stuff. I praise God that he led me to Summit it really is a great place and I’m sure God has big plans for ya’ll.
God Bless,
Bill Rouser
